UPDATE SEPT. Toll developments in Germany

UPDATE SEPT. 2018

Oldenzaal, August – 2018

“Maut Ausweitung Surcharge”

Dear Customer,

As already mentioned in our latest newsletter and on our website.
The German Federal Government has decided to expand the truck toll to all federal trunk roads as of 1 July 2018. The truck toll will apply on all federal highways.

With the expansion, the federal toll system will grow to 40,000 kilometers of federal trunk road. Currently, a total of 15,000 kilometers of motorway and federal trunk road is subject to charge.

This means that we have to add an extra “Maut Ausweitung Surcharge” of 2,6% on all the German related shipments. As from September 1st  we will have to pass on to our customers.

Next to that we want to inform you in this stage about the upcoming German Maut increase per 01-01-2019. This will be, depending on the truck type, somewhere between 35% to 50%.

What the effect will be on the rates is still unclear at this moment.

Surgage from September 1st
Due to the German Toll Expansion per July 1st, we have to add for all German shipments a “Maut Ausweitung Surcharge” of 2,6%.
This surcharge will be applicable as from September 1st .
For any further questions please send an email to our Customer Service desk.

As of 1 July 2018, Germany will also be implementing the toll tax for municipal streets. What this means for you as a client is that there will be an additional fee included in the rates starting on 1 July. Since there is currently very little clarity with regard to the exact amount and format of the fee, we are not able to tell you how this will affect your German rate as of yet.

This new toll tax for municipal streets is different from the adopted increase of the toll tax on German motorways that will enter into force on 1 January.

The toll is a tax measure that we are unable to avoid as a shipping company and it must be directly charged to our customers.
